Today we celebrate Turtle Day and its a great opportunity to take consciousness of how we can help them live free and peacefully
Turtles are one of the oldest species we have, they exist since the era of the dinosaurs, over 200 million years ago and they can live more than 100 years. Isn’t that impressive??
Sadly 129 species of 300 are endangered. But we can change this!!
Our MAAJI TEAM went on a mission on releasing turtles back to the river. The endemic species of turtle Podocnemis lewyana lives on the rivers of Colombia and is threatened by the trade of their eggs and meat.
There´s a non-profit that is protecting them since 2010 and is called Centro de Conservación de la Tortuga on Cocorná, Antioquia (few miles away from our Maajic facilities). They have released more than 6.500 turtles! But their main job consists on the education and communication of the importance these turtles have on the environment.
By supporting non-profits like this one, reducing plastic consumption and spreading awareness of taking care of nature we can help turtles live, cause life is better with turtles.
It doesn’t matter how slow you go as long as you don’t stop. Let’s join forces and protect these turtlerrific animals!
